SpaceX now has nine job openings listed for its planned Starbase Louisiana site, up from eight at the end of last week, according to the company’s public job board, which The Vermilion Times checks every day.
The new listing, titled simply “Communications Lead,” went up Monday at 12:13 p.m. It is the second communications job for the site. The first, “Communications Lead – Pecan Island,” was posted Oct. 12 and is still open.
What the job is
The two postings carry the same description. The person hired would handle outreach with the communities around the site, give hands-on public relations support at events, keep up relationships with local partners, and coach SpaceX executives for speaking engagements and public appearances. The job also includes building communication plans for “crisis situations.”
One line in both listings stands out: the role is to develop strategies “that get the public excited about how artificial intelligence will help and support SpaceX and its affiliates’ positions as a positive impact in the community.” The posting does not explain what part artificial intelligence would play at the Louisiana site.
Requirements
- A bachelor’s degree and at least five years of experience in communications, events or content development
- Strong writing and social media skills
- Willingness to work extended hours and weekends
- Full-time work on site at Pecan Island; hybrid and remote work will not be considered
- U.S. citizenship, permanent residency or another status allowed under federal export rules (ITAR)
The listing does not give a salary.
The nine openings
The board now lists two communications leads, a government affairs manager, two construction project leaders, a civil engineer, a construction safety engineer, an environmental engineer and an environmental health and safety manager, all at Pecan Island.
